During our chat, you'll hear Max and I discuss an exciting live GSE podcast panel set to take place in Lisbon, where I was scheduled to be on stage. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will not be able to attend the conference. However, I'm pleased to let you know that the panel is still going ahead. in my stead Max Gosney will be stepping up and guest hosting that special episode of the GSE Podcast. I'm confident it's going to be a captivating session filled with discussions on the future of GSE and innovations we can anticipate. I truly appreciate your understanding. And I hope you enjoy this episode. Now without further ado, let's get started. All right, well, welcome to a special edition of the GSE Podcast. I'm here with Jennifer mantasy, Executive Administrator of IAEMA. And also joined by Max Gosney, the portfolio director of GHI, how is everybody doing today?
Jennifer Matasy:Wonderful. We're happy to be podcast. Well, thanks, man.
Max Gosney:Great to be on. Thank you for having us.
Matthew Weitzel:Not a problem at all. Not a problem at all. So yeah, I just wanted to talk to you guys. We have the big GH AI annual event coming up, you know, November 28, to the 30th in Portugal, Lisbon to be specific. And just wanted to get you guys on here to kind of talk about it a little bit. I know IAEMA plays a role in that conference. And so I'd like to ask Jennifer to kind of talk about that a little bit. So let me explain what IAEMA is. According to this, what I have here is it's the International Airport Equipment Manufacturers Association. Now, I think this was started. I don't know what 10 or 15 years ago to kind of help out the manufacturers kind of navigate conferences and things like that, and kind of, you know, as a collective group decide what they wanted to do. But I'm gonna let Jennifer kind of speak to kind of what their what the mission is of IAEMA and kind of how that started and all that kind of stuff. So Jennifer, would you like to start us off?
Unknown:I would love to thank you so much. So you are right, Matt, we started about 14 years ago in 2009. And the whole premise of IAEMA is to help promote and support the business interests of the GSE community. It was a group that included about 20 leading GSE manufacturers with a vision to enhance our industry and influence the global airport equipment manufacturers. So our membership encompasses many of our of the world's leading GSE companies. We've got JB T on the board, we've got TLD we've got Vestergaard we've got Kobus mela Han and we also have Textron a part of the board as well, when we're all working together and sharing ideas to enhance the growth of our ground support business and our industry worldwide. Through all of this we feel that we have a comprehensive of education and formative events that we have partnered with Max and GHI and Endeavor to have a US GSE Expo and also a US GSE Expo in Europe as well. We create a you know have an authentic voice and we work tirelessly to create opportunities for our members to help increase their profits through these two events.
Matthew Weitzel:That's awesome. Yeah. How was your show? The GSE Expo in Vegas?
Unknown:Yeah, was phenomenal. We were over the top happy with the attendance. It came in that we had confirmed 2800 attendees. We had 3000 that were actually registered, and we had 2800 confirmed that were actually there on the show floor. So we are delighted at EMA to have that large of an attendance their largest one that we've had so far. We had over 49 US states represented there. And over 107 different countries. With 216 exhibitors, we can't be more proud of our partnership with endeavor and a shout out to all the hard work from the board members.
Matthew Weitzel:That That is incredible. I mean, listen, I was at the show, and I could tell it was it was it was packed is the busiest I've ever seen it I've been going to these shows for I don't know, like 16 years or whatever. And it was it was a madhouse in there and in a good way. And it was it was a fantastic event. So I'm so glad to hear all those numbers and to have all my thoughts confirmed on that because it was it was, it was awesome. And Max, you were there for that too, aren't you?
Max Gosney:I was I was a brilliant to see how the sister show GSE Expo, you're up there in the Americas ran and we had a great show. was fantastic to see it. It was it was quite hard. So as an Englishman in that car park area, but it was certainly worth walking around and seeing all the major manufacturers there and have some great conversations about where the industry is at. And looking forward to the expo European. There's been next year. And that was a great show and got a lot from it.
Matthew Weitzel:Yeah, the only I think the only complaint that anybody had was the heat outside. It was it was hot out there, guys. Sunscreen was the way to go. I made myself out and I made my way out there occasionally. And it's awesome people but I tried to stay at our indoor booth as much as possible. And Max was smart like me, he had an indoor booth as well. And we are quite cool in there sometimes had to put on a jacket. And but you know, I don't want to brag about it. But so So you all so I ima was was part of the was a part of the GSE Expo they're also going to be part of this this annual event. So Jennifer, will you be there at the annual event?
Unknown:Yes, I will be attending and representing I EMA proudly. So thank you for the invite.
Max Gosney:honored to have Jan yourself there. On the GSE panel, we're looking at the future of GSA as a special episode of the pod which thank you so much for giving us that that honor. And really looking forward having you both on the the expert panel, we're going to be looking ahead on what the changing shape of GSE might be in the next sort of 510 years and innovation, automation and sustainable power sources. So we're really excited about having you on stage in about seven weeks time.
Matthew Weitzel:I know I can't wait. And I knew that Jennifer was going to be there, that was more for you to give the plug about me being there as well. So I'm glad you took the bait. And that makes me very happy. And Jennifer, I'm very happy you're gonna be there as well, honestly. But let's let's go into this is a 24th annual GHI Annual conference. Again, it's gonna be held November 28, to the 30th in Lisbon, Portugal. And, you know, I saw that no pun intended, but we're gonna kick it off with a football event on Monday, before the before the actual conference. Is that correct?
Max Gosney:That's absolutely correct. I feel like now, we kind of know the aviation networking conferences. Now, Sideshow to the football was so popular is it every last few years, but though, it's a great way to, like say, forgive the pun, kick off the conference. And we've been running that football tournament since 2019. As just a bit of a you know, I know we have the golfing day at the the Las Vegas at the expo there. And we've been golfing days. And I think sport football on this occasion is just a great way to, for people to drop their guard and to get to know one another and build some great connections. And that's what it's kind of all about fun. I'm not saying doesn't get competitive. As you know, the team Textron, I'm sure listening, they've been gunning for that title for a number of years now. So the competitive spirits run high once you've crossed the white line, but it's about having some some good fans and networking and we've got a tournament lined up thanks to the guys at tap Portugal who have a dedicated pitches which have barely close to the airport. We're in discussions with Sky Sports over the live rights broadcast this because we know it's billions around the world that want to watch our our players with their their skills lining up on the pitch. So it's going to be a good day. And I'm sure that the if people come whether they win, lose or draw, they make a few new connections ahead of the conference, then it served its purpose and we'll have a good time. And then alongside the games, we'll do some networking drinks. And we have some great sponsorships for the shirts and little mementos that people say about them. So it's a really fun day and we're looking forward to it. And then a serious business begins on the on the 28th with the start of the 24th annual
Matthew Weitzel:Yeah, in sell for our American listeners a pitch is a field and the only reason that I know that is because I've been watching that Wrexham documentary, you know, otherwise I would have no idea what you were Talking about. So that's the reason I'm filling in the listeners, just in case they're not along with me watching, watching Ryan Reynolds on the Wrexham documentary. But, yeah, so did you say that, that they're going to have we're going to be live streaming? This? Is it? Did I hear that?
Max Gosney:That was that was my British sense of humor. Sorry, I was just sort of saying that the big sports channels here would would be We get hundreds of billion pound riots. Yeah, league games. So yeah, not not quite, we will be there to see it. So that's one of the attractions, we got to take some video and watch it you don't necessarily have to play we have had crowds of about 12 people in the past well, people want to come around and watch and have a few drinks and enjoy the atmosphere, then they're welcome to but now we don't screen it just yet. Hopefully, maybe if it builds and builds, one day, we will
Matthew Weitzel:we'll have to get some video that we can post on LinkedIn, you know what I mean? Like just, I mean, some kind of content that we can
Max Gosney:we always have done is get a photographer there and there's some absolutely amazing photos of people kind of over stretching for balls and you know, hitting shots and great saves and got an amazing selection of images that we'll release after the event.
Matthew Weitzel:I mean, I'm gonna hit you with the hard hitting questions right now. Like who if you had to choose who is the best player out of the GSE industry like who do we need to look out for on the pitch?
Max Gosney:Oh, you're gonna throw me in a lot of trouble man. Yeah, no. Yeah. Well, I've got I've got a few shout outs a few I mean
Matthew Weitzel:in listen we can have a we can have a post
Max Gosney:your former guest star here and they've worked closely with Brad Brad continent texture on his he's like a ninja on the pitch he's got the spring in his step and yeah, darts around. key part of that texture on team and I have to give a shout out to Willie there. Martin has a texture on the self styled Spanish messy you know, he's got a few nifty skills. They're dragged back here, Crosstown there and he scores a few goals. We've we've had some you know, some great shows and Nigel Daniel has been a real star down the years of great striker, very useful CSAT mass, they've been great players we've got we
Matthew Weitzel:are getting all kinds of information. This is the information people need. I can
Max Gosney:tell you my kind of top best 11 years if you want some, some great performances, great, great players, but they say the most most important thing is just having some fun.
Matthew Weitzel:You know, it's a great Jordan thing. And it's it's so different that you don't have to be
Max Gosney:a pro or have played football for at a high level to join. It's I say it's about all abilities. And you have mixed teams as well. Everyone's welcome. We have some of my my clothes at church I have played so it's about making it as open as possible to everyone and getting to know one another.
Matthew Weitzel:Yeah, it's a great opportunity for everybody to kind of get out there and do something other than golf, honestly, because usually it's always golf. And so why can't it be? Soccer? Right, the proper way to say what you've been saying this entire time? Well, I think
Max Gosney:we find it people go out and think they don't really hard and then about five minutes. They're usually pretty tired. Yeah. I need to use it.
Matthew Weitzel:So forget how old they are. It's what you're trying to say. Yeah.
Max Gosney:I want to shout out we've talked about great players, I will give a shout out to LastPass service at Vestergaard. And a key part of the Lima team actually, you know, he's he's won back to back titles. He's captain the sides. Title. So I think I've got to give it to Lars. Actually, I forgive forgive me for not mentioning earlier, but I think he's the title holders. Most important player MVP, as you say over there. Yeah. He's got to uphold the standard next next month last, but I'm sure he will.
Matthew Weitzel:Yeah, I'm sure Yeah. And I can imagine Brad being good just because the guy runs every day in like half of soccer is just well, football, whatever is running. And and especially with this group that probably isn't the most avid group of runners, let's say the GSE folk. All right. So what can we expect different this year at the the 24th annual ghci conference?
Max Gosney:We've got first insights we've had the demand has been absolutely sensational this year. So we just today we're sort of pedaling through the 600 registered delegates mark, which is more than 100 220 ahead of where we've ever been for an annual conference at this point. And last year, which was an attendance record in Amsterdam, we were about sort of Port 480 With seven weights to go at 600. So it's looking phenomenally popular, which we thank everyone for getting behind the event and their continued support with it. So it's going to be busy and we're certainly recommending we'd love you to come we want you to come and have the best possible time to get your registration in now because that means more meeting requests. That means sheduled is going to fill out sooner it means the hotel rooms closest to the film venue are going to go quickly so make sure you get your your registration done sooner rather than later. Get the most out of the conference, we will always be driven by that really advanced and flagship one to one meeting service that we provide, we're gonna get you in front of the people that you want to meet with, maximize your time, whilst you're away at the office, we know everyone in aviation is incredibly busy. So we will can craft that meeting schedule for you if you book early and give them all the best chance of doing it to the optimum standard. But we will go out and we will bind you that time with your target prospects and make sure those meetings happen, you can do business in a really premium environment. So that's going to be again front and center the event we've got, we've got the product ground handling awards going on. Again, this year, we've had a great intake of ventures. Once again, from around the sector, we've got the cargo zone, taking place in the exhibition area, looking at what the opportunities are in cargo handling air cargo growth. And we've got initiatives really this year, I guess what's new, what's different, we're certainly interested to get more buy in from my colleagues in airports. And we've got a special airport panel taking place looking at how airports can connect better with handlers and airlines, because they're all working towards the same objectives around electrification of the ramp, digitization of ramp areas, making it a more pleasant and happier experience and on time performance for the passengers passing through the airport. So we're, we're delighted to be joined by business leaders that are Shippo, we've got Dallas Fort Worth Liam at London Luton. And what we will be doing alongside that panel was hosting special roundtables led by those airports, where they can talk about electrification GSE, invite a group of attendees from handlers from suppliers from airlines to sit with them. And this is what those are hearts and ghci annual, I believe what it's been around for 25 years now it's bringing that community together providing the quality dialogue and engagement. And we, we just want to get more of those airports in. Because we do have a stronghold with the airlines with the handlers with the supplies, but I think the airport is so critical to what we all do. And perhaps they that their presence that the GHI and could be more substantial. And by doing that, we can connect that supply chain and get all parties working together for the greater benefit of us the passengers who go through the gates,
Matthew Weitzel:I think it's even more critical to get the airports in there now than ever, just because of infrastructure concerns, you know, from from our side, right, as far as, you know, can we do electrification at an airport, you know, where's the infrastructure, we, you know, we need the infrastructure, their hydrogen infrastructure, whether that's something that that they think is going to be viable in the future, in how many airports gonna be bringing that in. So bring them into the fold and, and autonomous as well, right, because they're gonna have to be involved in, you know, safety, and all that kind of stuff about autonomous vehicles running around with their airport. So like you said, I think it's even more important that they're invited to these things, and that they're coming. And then we bring all the parties together is just, it's fantastic. And I'm so glad to hear that, you know, that's something that GH is focused on, and, and you'll be bringing all those people together. So thank you for that. That's, that's amazing. That's,
Max Gosney:and that's what here we are, we are the Jesse Expo in Europe, in the Americas, in Las Vegas. So you've got so many suppliers producing some amazing pieces of equipment and electric electrification of all that care. But the complaint the the gripe from the other users is they're the operators, they just can't have that charging infrastructure to make sure there isn't enough of it. So you know, bring the two sides together, there's got to be a way that we can work through that and, and solve that problem, because it's, we don't want that to hold back the, you know, the the efforts to improve the carbon footprint of our industry and embrace sustainability, which is so important to manufacturers, represented by AHCA, Ema and our customers as well.
Matthew Weitzel:Yeah. So you'll, you'll be up on stage a lot. I imagine. You're holding a bunch of different panels. During this time, they still have
Max Gosney:you, the expert, the probe helping me and the GSEs. So yeah, don't
Matthew Weitzel:worry, I'll take care of you up there. Okay, you'll need a break by the time I get up there I imagined. So hopefully, I can help you out. But you know, I've already gotten one to one meeting requests. And those are already starting to come in and filling up my inbox, which is, again, something that, you know, JGI offers that nobody else offers are these one to one meetings, and you can get in front of these people that you've always wanted to try to get in front of and, and there's a list of, you know, delegates that that you can choose from to try to get those meetings set up with. It's a big differentiator. And yeah, I'm already starting already starting to see those roll in so very excited about that. There's still some sponsorships available. I saw on the website today, that the recharge zone is still available to sponsor the delegate bags, and I think there's one gold and one silver sponsorship left. So you know, yeah,
Max Gosney:I mean, it's like everything else this year. It's moving faster, saying I'm faster. Yeah. We'd love to speak to companies. You want to associated with the event that's all about bringing the aviation community together to do business about the quality of delivery. So get in touch with us to get in touch with Alice, Alice Clark, who heads up our sponsorships. And do it soon. Because as I say, we don't have we were seeing capacity come around really quick. So yeah, do drop us a line, there's still some opportunities. We'd love to work with companies that, again, subscribe to that ethos about community and delivering, and networking and quality services to to aviation.
Matthew Weitzel:So is there any space left as far as if I if I wanted to exhibit or is the exhibit space sold out?
Max Gosney:Note we have? Again, not not a lot. But we have my colleague George George Lydon, who heads up our exhibition sales. He's he's got a handful of stands left but you're looking at I think, was 70 positions. And we've got about six I believe remaining. So again, great buy from not only GSE manufacturers, it suppliers, it's well, but there, there aren't a lot of spots. Again, I'm don't want to disappoint people. So really getting getting quickly get in now and talk to my colleague, George, talk to me, and we'll we can facilitate one of those handful of remaining stands, but definitely don't hang around.
Matthew Weitzel:Yeah, for sure. Yeah, it's filling up quickly got so well, that sounds like it's going to be an incredible conference. And I can't wait. So what do we have to look forward to in 2024? Anything? Anything happening in 2024? Yeah, just skip
Max Gosney:now and look at gender because obviously, we work very closely with Jen on the IMA board. I'm the team on GSE Expo Europe, that launched in 2022, in Paris to great acclaim. And there's a huge response to that event and a desire to or to attend and see what the manufacturers in the market are offering in terms of sustainability and new equipment innovation and, and we will be bringing the sequel show to that and Lisbon again. And there's been at the fill in September 2024 70 to 90 so Shen and I've been working busily with the rest of the board, and we've got a lot a lot of work to to bring that one together, which we can't wait to get cracking on
Matthew Weitzel:parade. Jen, do you're gonna be there at that one?
Unknown:Oh, absolutely. I would have missed that one for the world. I'm excited about that. We we've been working on this. And since Paris. So last year, we have we've been putting a lot of effort into the next show. So even though the current show is going on, we're always two steps ahead. You know, we just finished Vegas we're already planning for Vegas for 2025 and beyond and with Max and GHI kind of the same thing where we're preparing for for the next show and beyond. So very excited to be partnering up with GHI and really look forward to what we have to bring to the industry and Lisbon in 2024
Max Gosney:Yeah, we've got a good sandbar great venue there. The Phil was we've got an outdoor area and Sony square that we're we're kind of needing some improvements to make it fit perfect for those outdoor exhibitors to bring their their equipment in and demonstrate it and Stan sales launched around the time of Las Vegas. And already we've seen an incredible buy in from the market is supported by the community for the GSE community. And the response has been amazing. I mean, we we look at the floor plan just for coming onto the call. And you know, there's a lot of green booked out booze. The space is moving fast. And you know, it's great to see that the market said they wanted their own bespoke event and they're really getting behind it again for Lisbon next year, we had about three and a half 1000 visitors in Paris be our ambition is to grow it. We the Asia market was still just coming out of COVID. Let me help the last show. And we would like to see more engagement, which is called Europe, but it's about for everyone in the world who's got an interest in GSE, who operates equipment maintains it, we want them to come into this show. So we really want to build on those numbers and make it even bigger and better for for Lisbon for next year.
Matthew Weitzel:Yep, yeah. So in just some point of clarification. So both of these shows are going to be in Lisbon, you know, yeah, I just want to make sure that like everybody understands. Yeah, these are hot right now. They're both in Lisbon now. Hope I love Lisbon when I go because I'm going to be back in 2024. And I'm sure I would love it. I mean, I've only heard amazing things. So and then we have Toronto to look forward to you know what, ghci America is moving to Toronto next year as well. So we will be there always supporting GHI conferences and you know, I appreciate you you know, coming on today and talking about this and kind of given a quick overview of what we have to look forward to honestly I'm the I'm, I'm so looking forward to the football. I this is this is so exciting. And I know it's been going on for a couple years now you've had it but I haven't been able to witness it. I'm very excited about seeing how this how this goes down and especially Lars this is you know, now that I know that he's Gotta watch
Max Gosney:well you know the second week so we want to say we have kind of a training regime obviously take it very seriously we need to see you out there are you out there training of everyday Matt we need to get into sort of professional levels of fitness you really give it your all for this one. So yeah. Tamkang runs some sprint work. Okay. All right. Get make sure you're having the right dietary supplements and yeah, no, calcitic want to see you doing it for Xcēd on the pitch.
Matthew Weitzel:Okay, yeah. So I started by just rhinos. I started playing soccer when I was five, and I played till I was 17. So I had 12 years in there, of soccer, but I don't know how good I am that I played. Right. I was out there. And that's
Max Gosney:as far as I say, you never lose it. So if you've got that that pedigree, I'm sure.
Matthew Weitzel:Yeah. And I gotta go back. Yeah, some some footwear and some, some shin guards, because I'm going to need that. So do people wear shin guards out there? Or is it just are we kind of see if
Max Gosney:she can pass yet? There'll be war. I mean, we, you know, as I say, sometimes the capacitive instinct takes over so we advise it just to protect people's options in case of an over aggressive challenge. So definitely bring yours
Matthew Weitzel:in over aggressive challenge. Yeah, I bet those happen. Occasional referees, by the way. We didn't have referees. Oh, good. All right. It's George out there.
Max Gosney:Oh, yeah. He'll be playing we like to try and create our own GH it. No, we often pair up with some, some delegates. And
Matthew Weitzel:okay, you pick the best one and see if you can when I see what you're saying. Yeah, people say
Max Gosney:that, that.
Matthew Weitzel:We can either confirm or confirm nor deny that. Yeah.
Max Gosney:Well, we look forward to working on a pitch. It's a good it's a good fun day. Yeah. Awesome. Well, if you do play anyway, does play, you get to keep your shirts and frame it and should be worth hundreds of 1000s on YouTube one day, sorry, on eBay one day, and they're a nice little memento as well. So you get your own kit to take that with you. And remember the day,
Matthew Weitzel:yeah, I'll probably be busy. I already know if I'll be able to play, I'll be signing everybody stuff, and they're gonna want they're going to want that.
Max Gosney:I've got a good age, we've got agents. So if you need a recommendation, yeah, I
Matthew Weitzel:always carry sharpies with me, you know, just in case. Well, thank you all so much for coming on today. And I really appreciate you giving the overview of IEMA and have the GHI Annual conference. And if anybody has, you know, any questions for you guys, look them up on LinkedIn. They're on there. And they'll be happy to answer into your questions about who to get in touch with as far as how to get involved in IEMA. Or how to get involved in in the in the conference coming up or the GSE your GSE Europe, European Europe GSE Europe, Expo sets from Europe, GCS from Europe. There you go. So Jennifer, do you have anything else before we wrap up? Yeah,
Unknown:I would. I would like to thank all the board of directors for all of their time and effort into making both the GSE Las Vegas and the GSE Expo. I hear up such a success. So I'd like to thank Brock Crocker with Vestergaard. I'd like to thank Owen McKenna with Malla Han, Jeff Barrett with TLD Andreas funk at Koba, then Reeves at powered sto Justin Brennan with Textron. He is the new board member and getting acclimated. So thank you, Justin for your time. And also Todd Tanner with JBT as well. So he's fairly new to the board too. So thank you to all those gentlemen for all their hard work and their hours put into having a very successful show as well. I also would like to let everyone know that a part of there is a membership we give back. Very great, you know, generously, excuse me, to our to our members. So we encourage you guys to keep up your membership on an annual basis since we have two shows one every year Now not every other year with this year. Because we are promoting green we are promoting the electric electrification of the GSE equipment. I EMA has agreed the board members have agreed to pay all of our current IEMA members electric bill at the GSE Las Vegas show. So we're very proud of that to give back to our community and thank our members for being a part of that. And also for the GSE Expo Europe show. We again still feel we want to give back to the community and back to our members and IEMA is paying for all of the asphalt. So we have a beautiful area for all of our outdoor exhibitors to be able to exhibit all of their brand new GSE equipment, electric equipment, hydrogen equipment, and anything new that their engineers will be coming up with in 2024. So thank you for your membership.
