you're listening to the GSE podcast. All right, I'm with Max Gosney from GHI. And we're here today to talk about GSE Expo Europe and a new podcast that is coming to guessing all channels. Max, fill us in on what's going on over there. Hello,

Max Gosney:

Matt. Thank you very much having me back again. Returning to the show. Brilliant to speak to you once again. Yeah, we're really excited about we're developing a special in your honor. And in your footsteps, the GSE Expo Europe podcast. So we we aim to preview the show activity what's going on at the event that's coming up very soon, two months time in Lisbon, speak some of the main OEM manufacturers and exhibitors about their plans for the show and also get our teeth in some of the big themes we're hoping to tackle at the show and as an industry. So issues like electrification of the apron, we're looking at autonomous vehicles automation, and its Advent in the sector and safety devices innovation in GSE. And as this seems like the perfect forum to garner the expertise of some leading lights in the sector, and tell those visitors about why they should make the effort to be there. And there's been in two months time. Yeah,

Matthew Weitzel:

yeah, man, it's coming up really quickly. And, you know, I'm glad that I will be there. So I'll be I'll be there with you. And you can kind of show me around and show me what's going on over there.

Max Gosney:

Well, after obviously looking forward to hosting you returning the favor after after catching up with you at the ghci in Toronto, nearer to your home shores just last month. So yeah, it'd be great to have you there, the XD team there and give you a tour of the floor, show some of the big features that we built into the event, which are areas like the demo zone, we're gonna have equipment displays, and we'll have an Innovation Zone, which will profile some of the big development areas for the GSE sector. So looking at some of those areas I mentioned earlier, like autonomous vehicles, looking at the rise of things like telematics digitization, and what it will mean for fleet strategies. Yeah,

Matthew Weitzel:

that sounds amazing. And so who's going to be hosting this podcast that you're going to be doing this GSE Expo podcast?

Max Gosney:

Well, unfortunately, for listeners, I'm, I'm half the team. So you're okay with me. But I'm joined by our marketing manager, Sophie Skinner, Jones, who many of the listeners, those are familiar to our shows, or know very well. So Sophie and I are co hosting. And we just hit the studio earlier this week to record some of the initial episodes. And like, you know, only too well, we've now got the arduous process of editing that content, sharpening everything up and hoping to release in the next couple of weeks.

Matthew Weitzel:

So what is the format look like? So it's you and Sophie and then are you interviewing people are like, what does that look like? Absolutely.

Max Gosney:

Yeah. So So our plan is and what we're looking to do is interview a lineup of panelists each week. So a couple of leading protagonists in the GSE community, and major supporters of the show, particularly drawing on our friends, their IEMA, some of the board members, and then theming each episode around, I guess, our guests expertise or their company area. So this we've been chatting to a few different groups. We're starting off with Jim Mazzi and Andreas funk, who are both ima board members at Kobus and aviation ground equipment. And we had an interesting chat with them about the kind of electric electrification hydrogen and its importance as different sustainable fuel type suggests in the future, alongside sharing some more embarrassing memories of exhibitions gone by trying to keep it a little bit light hearted as well as tackling the serious stuff. We also spoke to oh no McKenna, they're at Milan. Earlier in the week, long sides. Yeah, yeah. scene and Sebastian at Charlotte. And that one was looking at autonomous vehicles and a Charlotte team are actually bringing the 80 135 sort of demo at the show, showing them customers, you know, some of the driverless technology, which can be really exciting. So we're talking about that and the and the opportunities that would open up and when we might see at airports because, as the guys were saying on the pod some of this, some of the technology aspects have been around maybe Five, five years or more, but it's, it's about how we refine them and then roll things out on the ramp with the approval of regulators. And then finally, we talked to the guys ITW GSE, to Heller and Rouen. And that and that one was looking again at the kind of electric GSE. And its preeminence and fascinating to hear from them that electric sales in the last two years I think, since COVID have have eclipsed all sales prior to the run up to to the pandemic for them. So just shows you how hot the electric equipment market is right now. But But where's the infrastructure as we as well? Yeah,

Matthew Weitzel:

we covered that who covered that in like, that's an upcoming episode. So everybody has to look out for our electrification panel, editing that right now, along with a gh, America's recap show. So that'll be a lot of fun for listeners. But Max kind of tell me about just a little bit how it differs GSE Expo differs from the ones in in the United States in Las Vegas, usually. Yeah,

Max Gosney:

so I guess there's almost sister shows in that they're both IEMA exhibitions organized that the team in endeavor, or their event partner over in the US and we act as the event, exclusive event partner for Jesse Expo Europe here. So I suppose there's the similarities, they are a forum for where leading OEM manufacturers can come together bring the audience with demonstrate the latest GSE innovations. And we were asked coming out of COVID by that by some of those leading manufacturers to develop a European focused or hosted show, which I guess we would kind of build on some of the strengths of that Vegas event providing a forum for customers to come and see innovative equipment. And you know, try and throw in some new innovation so areas like that Innovation Zone corner, the demo zones, a key component where you can hide a cup public facing or visitor facing sorry, displays of equipment and, and we can use those to drive more attendance from from ground handlers and airlines and airports who who want to come and see some of the latest equipment, I suppose you would say that they better almost sibling shows. Yeah. Global infocus. But once hosted in Las Vegas, oh, when is hosted? Or was in Europe? It was in Paris two years ago. It's now in Lisbon for the second iteration.

Matthew Weitzel:

Yeah, it's gonna be great. So Max, do you have any numbers you can share with us like as far as attendance numbers or number of exhibitors, or any kind of like high level numbers that that you're willing to share? As far as you know, the audience knows how big this shows is going to be?

Max Gosney:

Very good question that and half the press, just looking out on one of our whiteboards out there across the office from me now. But the current registration, the pre reg figures, just at 12 150. So 1250, pre Reg, and that's tracking about 250, up on the stage in 2022, targeting prereqs number of somewhere north of 4000 are looking to get sort of three and a half 1000 Plus customers to attend and visit. And that's a growth on Paris where we had, we had so three and a half 1000 attendees, we're trying to, say upwards of 4000 to attend this year and the way that the numbers are tracking, we've got every confidence that we can do that. And it has now established itself as a brand and event in the market and look two years on from where we were in 2022. There are there are no other COVID restrictions for the Asia market. So we really want to get those visitors in from Southeast Asia to come and see the equipment to so that's looking really strong. We're up on exhibit a numbers. So 160 Plus, currently, there are a couple of remaining opportunities but no sales pitch here. Any manufacturers who do want to attend are interested in attending, really do advise you to get your inquiries in very soon. Because we do have to submit a final floor plan to our venue the Fill soon. And we can't open the door. Keep the door open forever. So hopefully we get a few more on top of that number. And yeah, it's in terms of square footage. We're also up on the plot that we had in Paris, which is great. So we've seen some real growth in the event. terrific to see both in terms of exhibitor numbers, total number of square meters taken up in space, and crucially, we want to see more visitors there. And we're confident we could do that. Yeah.

Matthew Weitzel:

And I think last time I was talking to George, the outdoor space was filled, I think. Yeah, yeah. And then space still available. Is that correct? Okay, that's

Max Gosney:

right, we, we have now sort of put the sold out sign over the outdoor space, the Sony square area, that's done, but we do have a little bit of remaining space indoors. And it's looking like a really full hall. I mean, we it will be the indoor space will be significantly bigger and more exhibitors than than we saw in Paris and the outdoor area replicates the scale of the event there at the Bouygues. So yeah, it's great to see and look thank you to all the people and the exhibitors who've back to who are coming in and supporting us and helping develop this event, which is we're discussing on the show, he is guided by His motto, which is by the community for the GSE community. So you know the strength of numbers is great to see and we just want to pull in as many potential G's SC operators, maintenance teams buyers at airports as possible to give the most value to that event in a couple of months. Yeah,

Matthew Weitzel:

I'm really excited about it. I think I can't wait for the demo zone. And the innovation. Yeah, that's gonna be really cool. So I'll go and test out some new equipment while I'm there.

Max Gosney:

Absolutely. I'm looking forward, Matt, to turning the tables on you on being in that chair in the podcast when we invite you to appear as a guest. Yeah, you're a podcast. Yeah. So I get to ask the questions. make you squirm next time around, we're really looking forward

Matthew Weitzel:

to exactly yeah, you're always here for the hard hitting questions, and I'm afraid they're gonna get turned on me. But yeah, that'd be really exciting. So we'll record that in a couple of weeks. And everybody can look out for that. So last, but not least, where can people find the podcast? Is it going to be on all the major platforms? Yes.

Max Gosney:

So what we'll do is we'll have a link to it both on the GSE Expo Europe website, we'll be distributing it via or E marketing via LinkedIn, just just directing people with a link through to download it, and have a listen. So you'll be hearing from the GSI team. And we'll be making it as straightforward as possible to click and download and listen and subscribe. And, yeah, as I say, so you've already set the standard Matt, and created an incredible forum was with the GSE podcast. And it's great to have your support and really appreciate it. And if we can do if we can emulate you in any way, it will be a great achievement. And thank you so much for your support and helping blaze a trail with the podcast and saying thank you,

Matthew Weitzel:

oh, no problem, man. And I just hope that my listeners go and check that out. So they can kind of learn more about GSE Expo Europe and all the new and fun and exciting things that you're going to be doing over there. And you know, it's just a lot of fun to you got that long flight, maybe potentially, from where you're coming from, and you can listen to all those podcasts on the way over to Portugal and really just kind of get ready for the show and find out and you said what you don't land and in wonder what you can do at that show? You'll you'll already know.

Max Gosney:

Yeah. And I think it's a fact that you get these big competitors really that are prepared to come together and CO locate workers, you know, for a great cause. As inspirational isn't as great to see and know many other markets, I guess would be would act in that way and be that selfless. So so it's a great endorsement, I think on the GSE world that that you get these investors doing this kind of event and working to bring customers in and tackle some of these big challenges that we we've got as an aviation community. Yeah, I

Matthew Weitzel:

completely agree. And we actually cover that a little bit on our recap show of the GH Americas. So people have to listen to that. And we talk a lot about that kind of community, just like you were talking about earlier. Anyway, so it's gonna be it's gonna be a ton of fun. And we're looking forward to it. And I'm glad that glad you're doing the podcast and everybody go and check it out. And I think should they rate it five stars is that it shouldn't be five. Why didn't you

Max Gosney:

tell me as a trick to create a 10 star rating? You have to show me the code.

Matthew Weitzel:

The cheat codes? No, yeah. But make sure you go in you listen, and you write it Rated five stars. And then while you're at it, you know, you might as well go on to the GSE podcast, right that five stars as well. I mean, just because you're already there. You know what I mean? It's, you know, eight or 10. You know if you can find 10 do 10. So anyway, well, Max, thank you so much.

Max Gosney:

Thank you, Matt, and looking forward to having you on the show and working together. Thank you. Yeah,

Matthew Weitzel:
